On November 23, the leader of Leftist Alliance, Kakha Dzagania, and a former member of Georgian March, Lado Sadghobelashvili posted on Facebook a screenshot of an article published on a webpage of a Canadian edition Conservative Beaver about George Soros being allegedly arrested. They captioned the screenshot “Canadian edition reports that George Soros has been arrested for interfering in the elections and is now being interrogated”.

Sadghobelashvili indicated a link to a Telegram channel “Who Is Who” as the source, which includes the post with the similar content.

The webpage of Conservative Beaver includes a document, which, according to the edition, is an indictment of George Soros. The document lists accusations such as wire fraud, identity theft, and damage to computers.

The information about George Soros being arrested is a conspiracy theory. The indictment included in the Conservative Beaver article is fake and actually is an indictment of six Russian hackers. The widespread report has been denied by a representative of the Open Society Foundations representative as well.

The document which, according to Conservative Beaver, is an indictment of George Soros, is actually an indictment of Russian hackers. It dates to October 15, 2020 and shows an indictment of six Russian hackers. The fake document displays George Soros’ name instead of those of the Russian hackers.

As Bellingcat reports, according to the indictment document, the six citizens of Russia have participated in numerous high-profile cyber-attacks, with targets including the electoral campaign of the President of France – Emmanuel Macron, the Winter Olympics, Ukrainian energy infrastructure, Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) etc.

Moreover, according to PolitiFact, a representative of the Open Society Foundations labelled the widespread information about the arrest of George Soros a lie.

Apart from PolitiFact, disseminated information was also debunked by Factcheck.org.

Dissemination of the conspiracy theory
